Reasons to Have a Last Will & Testament
The number one reason to have a Last Will & Testament is to ensure that your loved ones are taken care of according to your wishes.
If you pass away intestate (without a Will), the State of Tennessee will designate how your assets (real estate, financial accounts, personal belongings, etc.) are divided and to whom - which may not align with your wishes. With a Will, you determine how you would like your assets distributed and you can appoint an executor over your estate, whom you trust to handle to estate, its debts and assets.
A Last Will and Testament also allows you to designate a guardian for your minor child/ren should you pass away before they reach the age of majority.
At My Family Law Office, LLC, every Last Will and Testament service includes a Durable Power of Attorney (designates whom will manage your finances should you become incapacitated before death); a Medical Power of Attorney (designates whom will make healthcare decisions for you, should you become incapacitated before death) and a Living Will (which provide instructions to your end of life caregivers).
